We know nothing of this James Yeo other than his recognition of a debt in 1813. It was formalised in a legal agreement, which can be summarised as follows: James Yeo of Rochester, Kent acknowledges a debt of two thousand pounds to Robert Harry Sparks of St John’s Street, West Smithfield, Middlesex.
The deed is dated 22 January 1813 and describes James as formerly of East Sheen, Surrey. It includes a condition regarding partial repayment to Mr Sparks or to his heirs or executors by 2 July 1814.
James does not appear to be listed in any of the 19th-century censuses, and might have moved again, joined the Navy or emigrated.
