Rebecca Celia Yeo was born in Devonport in 1838; her birth was registered at Stoke Damerel in the third quarter of that year. She married Anthony Porter Self in Plymouth in 1860 and emigrated to the United States three years later with him and their two children. Anthony died on board ship, and Rebecca apparently had a hard life in her newly adopted country. She eventually moved to Salt Lake City and married William Henry Solomon there in 1869.
