The 1891 census for Swansea records butcher Alex Puddicombe at 99 Bonymaen Road. He is living with his wife Eliza and eleven other people. His age is 36 and his birthplace is recorded as Westleigh, Devon.
Included in this large household are employees John Yeo (age 20, born Devonshire, described as a shopman) and Fred Yeo (age 18, born Glamorganshire, described as a groom [note 1]).
John Blackmore Yeo (1871–1950) and Fred Yeo (1873–1943) were brothers, sons of William Yeo and Mary Hogg, who had moved from north Devon to south Wales in the mid 1870s. Fred and John were both born in Devon so Fred’s birthplace is shown inaccurately in the census return.

Note
1. Fred was presumably employed to look after the butcher’s horses.
