British and American researchers are often confused by each other’s terminology.
One example is the way great uncles and aunts are referred to – American usage refers to them as grand uncles and aunts. The American approach makes it easier to be sure which generation such relatives belong to: your great grandfather’s brother is your great great uncle (British) but your great grand uncle (American).
