Northam is a small parish on a peninsula north of Bideford. Yeos lived in this then isolated area since before parish records began.
John Yeo of Northam, baptised there in 1627, moved to Ireland. His widow Elizabeth returned to Northam and married John Clement of Appledore in 1666.
John Yeo’s son John Yeo, a shipwright, also returned to Northam from Ireland and married Katherine Harris there in 1684. John and Katherine’s six children were baptised at Northam in the last two decades of the 17th century but no lines of descent from them have been traced.
