Thomas Yeo of Bradworthy (1764–1834) farmed land at Bradworthy and in the adjacent parish of Kilkhampton. He was a grandson of Thomas Yeo and Elizabeth Gist, who form part of an extensively researched family. Their descendant Mary Elizabeth Jessie Yeo drew up a pedigree of his family in 1907, and Carol Hudd has investigated some of the 19th- and 20th-century lines of descent.
Thomas married Grace Ashton [note 1] at Kilkhampton in 1790. Their eight children were baptised at Bradworthy:
– Grace Yeo (1790–1794)
– Benjamin Yeo (1792–1856, a brewer and innkeeper, married Elizabeth Jeffery [note 2] at St Mary, Bideford in 1830)
– Francis Ashton Yeo (see below)
– Elizabeth Yeo
– Thomas Yeo
– Grace Yeo (1800–1828, married William Smeeth at Stratton in 1821)
– Dorcas Yeo (1803–1804)
– Lawrence Yeo (1807–1830).
Francis Ashton Yeo (1794–1829, son of Thomas Yeo and Grace Ashton), married Harriet Moone Body at Callington in 1817; Harriet and their infant son George Yeo died in 1819. Francis then married Elizabeth Achim née Shepherd [note 3] at Holsworthy in 1820; they had two sons:
– Francis Yeo
– John Shepherd Yeo (see below).
John Shepherd Yeo (1822–1887, son of Francis Ashton Yeo and Elizabeth Achim née Shepherd) moved to London, where he worked as a shoemaker. He married Amelia Skinner at the parish church of St George the Martyr, Southwark in 1842; they had seven children:
– Amelia Sarah Yeo (1843–1929)
– John Shepherd Yeo (1847–1900, married Cecilia Louisa Watson at Holy Trinity, Marylebone in 1868)
– Benjamin Yeo (1849–1852)
– Elizabeth Caroline Yeo (1852–1904, married Henry York at Holy Trinity, Marylebone in 1877)
– Caroline Dorcas Yeo (1855–1965)
– Francis Richard Yeo (see below)
– Susannah Alice Yeo (1865–1934, married Frederick Staines Davey at Marylebone in 1896 and Henry William Putt at Plympton Register Office in 1899).
Francis Richard Yeo (1859–1941, son of John Shepherd Yeo and Amelia Skinner) married Alice Maude Hussey at Marylebone in 1882. They had four children:
– Blanche Yeo (1883–1970, married William Clark at Holy Trinity, Marylebone in 1914)
– Francis Yeo (born 1886)
– Ethel Yeo (born 1888)
– Harold Yeo (1904–1975, married Nellie Elizabeth Brown in Sussex in 1935).
