Samuel Yeo and Emmy Ridgway

Samuel Yeo (1836–1898) moved from Devon to London and married Emmy Ridgway at Holy Trinity parish church in Westbourne Terrace, Paddington on 27 October 1870. Their marriage certificate records Samuel, a bachelor, as a 35-year-old police officer and his father as Henry Yeo, a farmer.

Emmy was a 33-year-old spinster. Her name is clearly written on the certificate as Emmy, but her signature reads ‘Emma Ridgway’. She had been baptised in 1837 as Emma Ridgway, at Maltby in the West Riding of Yorkshire. She and Samuel married by banns, and so were both resident in the parish at the time they married. They appear not to have had children.

Some researchers record Samuel as a son of Henry Yeo and Elizabeth Aurther of Swimbridge, but his birth pre-dates their marriage by ten years. Sheila recorded him as the third son of Henry Yeo and Elizabeth Vicary of Bishop’s Tawton.
